This plugin was inspired by the classic analog one-button chorus effects that were built into synthesizers back in the 80s and it features that same lo-fi sound. Speaking of simplicity, how would you like a 1-button plugin? Well, that’s what the Magic Switch by Baby Audio is… Well, it’s one button and one slider, but you get the point!

Additionally, it comes with a total of 18 presets and you can also create and save your own.Īside from the EQ, I think that what really sets this plugin apart from the rest on this list is its ability to let you A/B test different settings without the need of running multiple instances of the plugin.

I even use it on clean guitars to give them some edge without going into distortion territory.įerricTDS is my “secret spice” and easily my favorite free VST plugin ever. It is my go-to tool for saturating and compressing drums, vocals, bass tracks, and busses.
Its saturation algorithm is on another level, and its dynamics processing is equally good, if not even better. None of them came even close to the results I was getting with FerricTDS. I’ve tried dozens of tape saturation effects, ranging from freeware plugins to super expensive ones. Get ready to warm up, saturate, and tape-ify your tracks like never before.īefore you go, you may be wondering why I enjoy using FerricTDS so much. And if you’ve never used FerricTDS before, this is your lucky day. If you’re already a fan of FerricTDS, hurry up and add it to your 64-bit DAW. It’s still a wonderful design, though, and there really isn’t any need to change it. The GUI hasn’t changed, apart from the tweaked label in the upper-right corner (it now says FerricTDS mkII). On the surface, FerricTDS mkII looks exactly the same as its predecessor. And better yet, it’s still freeware.Īs for the improvements, the plugin now features an updated limiter algorithm, a new analog signal path emulation, improved tape compression algorithms, and revised metering ballistics. Its only caveat was the fact that it only used to work in 32-bit DAWs, much like the rest of Variety Of Sound’s plugins. FerricTDS is the best tape saturation plugin out there, freeware or not.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Variety Of Sound releases FerricTDS mkII, the updated 64-bit edition of the tape saturation effect in VST2 plugin format for Windows.
